Rose Hashimoto was born and raised in Seattle, WA and currently lives in New York City. Rose has performed in major venues in eight different countries, as well as on the air on WQXR radio and PBS’ Live from Lincoln Center. She has performed frequently with the acclaimed self-directed chamber orchestras A Far Cry and Shattered Glass Ensemble.
Devoted to community outreach work, Rose served as a member of the Banff International String Quartet Competition’s Quartet in the Community, performing over 20 educational outreach concerts in unconventional venues. As Co-Artistic Director of Listen Closely Inwood Chamber Music Initiative, she has organized and performed many free, informal concerts at beloved spots around the Inwood neighborhood. Rose has recently become very involved with the El Sistema movement, which strives to create social change through music education; she teaches a class of beginning violists at the Harlem Central Success Academy through Harmony Program and regularly volunteers as a teacher with Upbeat NYC in the Bronx.
Rose earned a Bachelor of Music from Juilliard and a Master of Music and Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. Her major teachers have included Toby Appel, Hsin-Yun Huang, and Laurie Smukler.
